Parent and Family STEM Resources

  • The National PTA's STEM + Families® program delivers access and hands-on exposure to STEM to engage families and inspire students to pursue career opportunities in STEM fields.
  • ​The Parent's Guide to STEM. This tool helps parents to remain active in their students' lives as you provide your child with the best possible future.
  • Mathematics Resources for Parents and Guardians. Information and resources for parents and guardians that explain explain mathematics instruction used today and provide suggestions for supporting their child's academic success.
  • Growth Mindset for Parents. This toolkit helps parents learn what growth mindset is and why it is important for their child. Users can watch short videos on growth mindset and then complete reflections and activities to support their understanding of the content.
  • Two Strategies to Help Your Child Learn to Love Math. This short video by REL Northwest will teach parents and guardians two practical, evidence-based strategies for helping kids learn and appreciate math.

  • Families in Schools. General resources for families such as College and Career, Financial Support, and Undocumented Immigrants.

MESA Family Day - LA Metro Region / ​Día de la Familia de MESA

In November 2022 and 2023, we had an in-person event for our MESA parents, guardians, and families to engage with the program to learn about information and strategies on how to support their children in STEM. In addition, MESA families also had the opportunity to engage in hands-on STEM activities. ​

​We thank LADWP for the generous support to provide this opportunity for our MESA parents, guardians and families! Funding also provided by the LA Metro Region MESA Centers (USC, UCLA, CSULB and Cal State LA).

Parent Night: Importance of Mental Health in STEM Fields

Our last parent night for 2020-21 focused on supporting the mental health of students entering STEM fields. USC Counseling and Mental Health Services provided parents tips, strategies and tools to support the mental health of students. In addition, we introduced our A-G Student Manager tool.
